Abi Uthayachandran

Abi is a Partner in the Banking and Financial Services group in Sydney.

He acts for corporate and institutional lenders and borrowers on bespoke debt and quasi equity transactions (including syndicated, club and bilateral facilities). His depth of knowledge and strategic approach has helped clients navigate a variety of particularly complex corporate finance, real estate, and project development transactions. Abi has a particular interest in ESG and sustainable products.

Abi’s clients include major banks, non-bank lenders and fund managers. He enjoys forming deep relationships with his clients and spending time getting to know their goals and risk tolerances to provide tailored and pragmatic solutions to issues that inevitably arise in debt transactions.

  • Major Australian bank Advising in its asset sale of its retail, commercial and small business banking operations in a foreign jurisdiction.
  • Major Australian bank Advising on the acquisition facility provided to fund the acquisition of Bulletproof (ASX:BPF) by AC3 by way of a scheme of arrangement.
  • Major Australian Bank Advising on the provision of construction funding of around $215 million for the construction of an apartment complex in Newcastle.
  • InterOil Corporation Advising on its USD250 million working capital facility provided by a syndicate of lenders which was later upsized to USD400 million.
  • InterOil Corporation Advising on its USD520 million sale of refinery and distribution in PNG business to Puma Energy.
  • Major Australian Bank Advising on the provision of approximately AUD100 million facilities to a shopping center investor under a common terms structure.
